Coffee does not have to be used exclusively as a beverage. Just recently we had written about making vegan tiramisu with strawberries. This time we provide you a slightly more exotic recipe that combines a piece of meat and coffee. Have you ever heard of such an interesting combination of at first glance two incompatible foods ?!
The recipe was prepared in collaboration with food blogger Marijana Zlomislić unmondodisapori. Marijana has been subscribed to Karibu three-month coffee subscription. Having some leftovers, and since a new supply of fresh coffee had been arriving soon, she decided to play around with the coffee in a slightly different way. That's how this recipe was invented!
Below is a recipe for preparing steak in a coffee crust for 1-2 people.
1 rib eye steak (approx. 330g)
1 tablespoon ground craft coffee
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 flat teaspoon cumin in seeds
1 tablespoon sweet pepper
1 dried pepper (chili arbol)
For the sauce/salsa:
30 ml of olive oil
Juice of 1 lime
½ red hot pepper
½ green pepper
1 green sprig of spring onion
¼ Smaller purple onions
½ teaspoons of salt or to taste
30 g butter
1.Put all the spices and coffee in the mortar and beat well in order to chop the cumin and peppers and to combine all the ingredients.
2.Roll the steak on all sides, wrap in foil and let stand for an hour at room temperature.
3.For the sauce, finely chop all the ingredients and mix with the oil and lime juice, stir in the salt.
4.Melt the butter in a pan, fry the crushed garlic and bake the steak on each side for 4 minutes (steak 1.5 to 2 cm thick) and briefly on the edges.
5.Wrap in foil and let stand for about 10 minutes. Slice, sprinkle with coarse salt and serve with sauce/salsa.
6.Enjoy your meal!
